The movement of thought from certainty to uncertainty is Fear. Beyond the actual moment, there is a deeper layer in the mind that is thinking of what may happen in the future or worrying that something from the past may overtake the present moment. We want to be sure of the future, but we never will. And, we are all aware that running away from fear, only intensifies it. Yet, the major cause of fear (fixation on the past and future) is that we do not want to face ourselves as we are.
