The 'Shamanic Meditation Studies' Sharings

June 2020 – Shamanic Meditation Studies – Shamanic Dreaming

June 2020 – Shamanic Meditation Studies – Shamanic Journeying

I plan to hold our June Meeting on Saturday June 20 at 3 pm Arizona (6 pm eastern) time.

1. Please, continue to make the time and space to Just Watch life flow through you during your busy day. Each day this month, invest at least 5 minutes without filtering life through a personal point of view. Consciously make room for life to just be, without labeling or judging anything, or anyone!  Please post what you experience…

2.The Shamanic Dream model of the world is that we are here (ordinary reality) playing a game of hide and seek – getting lost in dream personas that seem like they are out of our control. For me, shamanic journeying (dreaming) is a powerful way to consciously connect with, and wake up to, the parts of me that feel stuck in a tiresome dream of separation from the world (stranger in a strange land).

I propose that you go on a shamanic journey – to the 19 year old version of yourself.  Use a drum or journey music to facilitate your journey. Here is the intent for the journey – What piece of advice or wisdom would you share with the younger you – the one that has almost totally forgotten that life is but a dream?

And, then, to take that wisdom and integrate it into your current dream self by creating a new dream that bridges the gap between past and present, and self and other. As a follow-up to that experience, you and me will journey into shamanic states of consciousness, together.

I will introduce you to realms of existence on the astral planes. We can do that during our one-on-one meetings.

3. More to come.

Namaste,

Keshav

January 2020 – Shamanic Meditation Studies – Just Watching

January 2020 – Shamanic Meditation Studies – Just Watching

I plan to hold our January Meeting on Saturday January 18 at 3 pm Arizona (5 pm eastern).

For me, "Just Watching" is a way that I make room for life to come to me. It is an act of devotion that starts with looking out at life, without following the need to gather information about what is being observed. Recognizing that this simple shift in awareness does tend to stir up a lot of mind activity, I just watch. Rather than reaching out for something from life, I commit to lovingly receive.

Please play with "Just Watching" while sitting in a familiar place inside your home – at least once a day. Also, play with it at least once a day while sitting outside. "Just Watch" the natural flow of life for as long as you can stand it. Please note the urge to make this into a chore, to time how long to do it, or to add it to your list of things to fit in during your busy day.

Use the mind as a tool to communicate what you experience. Please make room for the urge to personalize what is being observed. Please post what you discover. Let's continue to dialog…

August 2019 – Advanced Shamanic Studies Group – Meditative Awareness

August 2019 – Advanced Shamanic Studies Group – Meditative Awareness

1) How do you get someone to see something they cannot see?

2) Finding refuge in our "ordinary" lives starts by consciously deciding to make peace with what changes! Ironically, Liberation is a change in perception away.

3) The only thing wrong with us is the idea that there is something wrong with us. Too simple or confusing?

3) This month, I commit to focus my attention on consciously exposing the layers of (S)self. And, particularly with delving into the true nature of a healthy but still separate sense of self, that is a bridge between the ego self the Absolute Self. Let's explore together!

4) Please make an effort to "tune into" the Shamanic healing drum circle every Thursday evening from 5 to 5:30 pm Arizona time (8 pm EDT).

5) The next Advanced Group will meet at 3 pm Arizona time or 6 pm EDT for 2.5 hours on Saturday, August 17, 2019.

Part 2 – The mind is actually grateful to experience the still and vibrant nature of undivided attention.

Again – all of this homework is designed to break down the myopic way that we view life. I look forward to your reports…. I am not interested in theories about this homework assignment – what is your direct experience of my invitation!  I look forward to your insights!

July 2019 – Advanced Shamanic Studies Group – Space and Time!?

July 2019 – Advanced Shamanic Studies Group – Space and Time!?

1) One of the reasons that I love jigsaw puzzles is that it is very difficult for attention to wander while solving a puzzle. Getting lost in time while working on puzzles is a simple way to meditate. Please give it try and report what you experience! There also some wonderful puzzle apps.

2) I have often mentioned how off-center I feel when I objectify a simple walk from here to there, and back. The example that I have often referenced is a"trip" to the mailbox. The space between those seemingly separate and distinct objects is not at all meditative. I actually experience a profound drop of attention into unconsciousness. I can no longer hear the birds singing; and the sweet scent of the flowers is suddenly absent. Please play with this simple "exercise."

3) Consciously resting attention in the vastness of the moment, leaves very little room for us to get lost here in the world of form (here and there; now and then). In any given moment, please be attentive to the urge to label what is in plain sight, or the need to compare the moment with another. When attention is resting in the here and now; the flat and dull two-dimensional nature of reality starts to fall away, revealing the dynamic and multi-dimensional nature of reality to appear (just like what happens when we gaze into a magic eye book).

3) We are planning a weekend intensive during the second weekend in September. It is a wonderful way for me to celebrate my 70th birthday on September 15th. Please let me know if you are interested. We will let your know about the particulars as soon as possible.

Also, I am really excited about facilitating one-on-one intensives this summer. The intensives this summer have been a god-send. I have learned so much about how to be a more open and attentive facilitator of explorations into nothingness!

4) Please make an effort to "tune into" the Shamanic healing drum circle every Thursday evening from 5 to 5:30 pm Arizona time (8 pm EDT).

5) The next Advanced Group will meet at 3 pm Arizona time or 6 pm EDT for 2.5 hours on Saturday, July 20, 2019.

June 2019 – Advanced Shamanic Studies Group – Spirit Guides?!

June 2019 – Advanced Shamanic Studies Group – Spirit Guides?!

1) "Spirit Guides" are always here to remind us to surrender to an ever-present primordial contentment – independent of life's fleeting, but sometimes disturbing content. The more I "hold my seat" – without following a thought stream about what is happening in the moment, the less compelling those distractions have become. The feel of "losing myself in the moment," is itself, a Spirit Guide; saying: "Welcome Home." "Yeah, I am aware that was just a dream, and that you never actually left."

One Spirit Guide, for me, is the Voice of Binky. The image of a crazy clown tossing galoshes out the window on a rainy day, in the face of the voices of reason, conscience, or practicality is sublime (who wants to play in the rain wearing boots!).

When I catch myself trying to "get it right," it is the call of Binky saying "Are you kidding me." For me, The voice of Binky is my wake up call to "get over it." Recently, Donna pointed out that I often utter that phrase out loud, for no apparent reason. Damn straight. Thank you Binky!

2)A flock of ducks harassed me when I was a young boy. As part of my recovery from the "duck incident," I got into rubber duckies, which are both cute and buoyant.  Part of my highly disciplined spiritual practice is to take a long bath with a rubber ducky. This Spirit Guide reminds me to fully engage all of my physical senses on the joy of a simple bath (although, I do add bath salts and orange scented essentials oils).

Consciously resting attention in the vastness of the here and now, leaves very little room for divided attention to get lost in time and distance (here and there; now and then).

May 2019 – Advanced Shamanic Studies Group – Meditation!

May 2019 – Advanced Shamanic Studies Group – Meditation!

1) We are all reflections of an undivided Self, waking up to that fundamental truth. At our disposal during this transition are these body/minds; tools to be used to recognize the ever-present illumination that is the core of Existence. Now is the time to sharpen our tools.

Regarding the body, let's make the commitment to exercise and feed this tool. I am keenly aware that if I commit to working with unfiltered energies, I need to do whatever I can to assure that my body can surrender to the vibrancy of the still illuminations – right in plain sight.

What can you do to sharpen your body/tool this month? Please post what you can commit to – with progress reports.

2) "Taking our seats" is a commitment to take back our power by using the mind/tool to observe and communicate the look and feel of the fluid and boundless nature of the fabric of the universe. Hold your ground as a Simple Witnessing Presence.

Consciously resting attention in the vastness of the here and now, leaves very little room for divided attention to get lost in time and distance (here and there). What is observed when everything is allowed? Who is noticing?

3)The capacity for my body/mind to relax into this eternal moment is dependent on my commitment to stay fully present with life, just as it is. A powerful and ongoing exercise of mine is to consciously allow the mind to just notice when beliefs(b) and expectations(e) filter the experience of the flow of life. Part of that task, for mind, is to simply keep a running total for the appearance of both b and e.  And, or, it can take on the job of just noticing whenever a spicy and dramatic story about the moment arises. Let it be…

Allow the mind to experience what it is like to try and get into an argument with nothing. Keep us posted.
