Conduct an honest inquiry into how much of your time is devoted to reacting to changing life circumstances – versus reflecting on the miracle of life in the moment.
I notice a lot of time spent invested in having conversations with people/ situations that have either happened or may never happen. When I am in these states I’m completely engrossed in “how can they”, when In reality I understand very clearly “how can they” because that is me. Letting go appears to go infinitely deep, and the more willing I am to drop these stories of separation the more freedom is available. I can not force anyone to make the choice for peace if I am unwilling to continue to foster that relationship.
I have many times been upset about what I don’t have while overlooking the blessings that I do have. There are many miracles happening in any given moment if I stop perseverating on what I think “shouldn’t” be happening and open to the miracles that are here. Something as mundane as watching ants as they go about their daily industry, sometimes carrying what must be at least their own weight can seem miraculous in itself. I remember when I temporarily moved into my grandmother’s house, having no idea what to do, I sat out on the steps to the front porch and became engrossed in watching an ant colony. It became almost a meditation, pulling me out of my resistance to my unwanted circumstance. Then a neighbor a few house down who was about my age came over and introduced herself. We have been friends ever since.
My aha moment was the realization that when I inquire into a judgment I am making about anyone I am simply jealous! Wow. Such an amazing aha moment and opportunity to bust myself! Recognizing it heals it instantly. Emitting love to the victim of my criticism heals me as well.
