Zen Mindfulness and Shamanic Journeying

Mindful Zen Meditation divides the world into awareness and objects of awareness. The details of what we are aware of are of little importance. The Shamanic journey work is primarily interested in the simple, comforting feel of the experience at the expense of getting entangled in following a storyline. Conversely, when working together, please explore those precious resources based on a combination of shamanic journeying and Zen mindfulness explorations.

Sit alone in silence, and please surrender to the unedited, raw, and robust feel of an unfiltered present moment. Open to the intimate and graceful embrace of the moment as it is! Shamanic Journey work is a powerful resource for surrendering to the spiritual integrity and the unfiltered wisdom of this life’s eternally present moment.

Homework:

1. Sit alone and silent in a comfortable room in your house. Ease your gaze to a space between two objects of awareness in the room. Now, shift your awareness to your breath and count the exhalation of each breath as one, two, three, etc…

2. Sit back and observe the nature of feelings, thoughts, and sensations without getting involved in or exploring a storyline; follow the thread and experience where the subconscious takes it. Make peace with the energetic interplay between the feel of shamanic journeying and Zen mindfulness meditation. Be attentive to and mindful of how beautifully the Zen Mindfulness and Shamanic journey explorations complement each other.

3. The “Buddha,” playing the role of Shaman, spent vast periods of his tenure on the earth plane in a deep, mindful, meditative state of connecting with seen and unseen aspects of reality as part of a deep meditative state of simple knowing and consequential wisdom that erased long-held ideas about the eternal nature of Now. My original Zen teacher, Khenpo Rinpoche, along with Master Michio Kushi, both inspired me to fully understand the only real time there is – “Here and Now.” Both inspired me to notice that trying to maintain stillness only leads to more agitation.  Both also encouraged me to surrender to the full embrace of the Here and Now.

Also, I/we should be aware that trying to get to or maintain the stillness of unfiltered presence only leads to confusion, which arises when trying to get to where we already innately reside – Home.

4. Post what arises for you!! And delve into both the content and feel of the experience.
